How do I calculate taper length

Taper Calculator

A taper could be defined as a piece of material or a hole, or a tunnel like structure, where one of the diameter increases or decreases when compared with other diameter, just like a cone. It is expressed as Taper per Foot (TPF), or Taper per Inch (TPI). TPI/ TPF is calculated by finding the difference in diameter at the opposite ends of the taper and dividing the the length.

Taper Per Inch / Taper Per Foot Calculator

A taper could be defined as a piece of material or a hole, or a tunnel like structure, where one of the diameter increases or decreases when compared with other diameter, just like a cone. Formula:

Taper/Unit of Length = (Large End Dimension - Small End Dimension) / Overall Length

Example

A 20 inch taper with small and large diameter as 5 inch and 10 inch has a taper of
Taper Per Inch = (10 - 5) / 20
Taper Per Inch = 0.25 inch is the TPI
